of Engineering Exam
This is a SUPPLIED-REFERENCE
examination, which means
no reference materials may be brought into the room.
Review: Materials
Permitted in the Examination Room
A sample reference manual
is available for review and download on the NCEES website: www.ncees.org
look under FE Study Material. This is
to allow the candidate to review and become familiar with the references he or
she will be using during the exam. Do not bring any review material to the exam site.
A new copy of the EI Reference Manual will be distributed as a part of
the examination materials.
These
exams are offered every April and October at Reno and Las Vegas exam sites;
usually at the university campus (See Exam
Announcement for exact dates). The
exams are eight (8) hours in length - consisting of two sessions of four (4)
hours each. At the morning session,
the exam room will be opened at 7:30 AM; instructions
will begin at 7:45, and the exam will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.
For the afternoon session, the doors will be opened approximately 12:30
PM, instructions will begin at 12:45 with the exam commencing at 1:00 PM.
The exam is a multiple-choice format and has 120 1-point general questions in the morning exam that everyone must answer, and 60 2-point questions in a choice of General or 6 discipline-specific categories in the afternoon. You chose the discipline category you want at the exam site. Answers will be entered on computer-scanned answer sheets and the total score will be a combination of both morning and afternoon answers. Attendance and completion of both sessions, therefore, is required. (see www.ncees.org for the content of each exam.
Effective in 2010, 7 separate exam books will be made and you will need to chose the PM you are taking when you submit your application.
There is
no penalty for guessing on the exam - the score is based only on the number of
correct answers, so make sure you enter an answer for each question.
Approximately
two weeks before the examination, you will receive an Admission Card.
This card will include:

location of the exam site
·
starting times
·
your personal seat assignment
·
parking information, as needed
For
identification and exam security purposes, you must photocopy a photo ID and
tape the copy to the back of your Admission Card.
You must bring this Admission Card (with the photocopy attached) and your
original photo ID to the exam.
Preparatory
and review sessions are usually offered by the UNR and UNLV Colleges of
Engineering. Also, other
professional organizations often sponsor preparatory workshops. Contact these groups directly if you wish this type of study
assistance.
Study
materials are available from NCEES and numerous private publishing companies.
You may access the NCEES Home Page at: www.ncees.org
or contact the Board’s Examination Administrator for additional study
options or resources.
Plan to
bring the following with you on exam day:

your Exam Admission Card with photo
ID
·
an approved calculator – see
enclosed sheet “Materials Permitted in Examination Room”
Exam results will not be known for
approximately six weeks following the examination. You
will be notified of your results by mail from the Board Office as soon as the
results are received from NCEES and verified by our staff.
All exam results are confidential, therefore, will not be given to anyone
by phone, E-Mail, or Internet.
Several
years ago, Nevada legislative action changed the titles of Engineer-In-Training to Engineer
Intern. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination leads to certification as an
Engineer Intern that will be recognized by any state you may work in the future.
When you pass the exam, you will receive a notification letter and a wall
certificate. This certification is
for an indefinite period and does not require renewal.
